USITT’s Business of the Business Webinar series is geared to assist freelance theatre technicians as they embark on the world of business management.

Course description: This course is designed for those intending to be self-employed or start their own small business. The course teaches the basics associated with pricing a product or service and determining how much product or service must be sold in order to generate a desired level of profit. The course also teaches the basics associated with determining and paying the required taxes on the profit generated.

Learning objectives:

At the end of the course, the student should know:

1) How to estimate the personal taxes due related to being self-employed or starting a small business.

2) When and how to pay the personal taxes due related to being self-employed or starting a small business.

3) How to properly price a product or service.

4) How to determine how much product or service must be sold in order to generate a desired level of before-tax and/or after-tax profit.
